New pens

Most people would acknowledge that the quality of their day - and consequently of the work they do - can be influenced by seemingly insignificant factors: a timely caffeinated beverage, a tidied briefcase, a great pair of new shoes, an easy morning commute, a break in a stretch of rainy days, a new batch of Post-it notes.

I can understand that it would be a bit unsettling, though, to think that the same applies to physicians. Medical care should be consistently provided to the highest of standards. Doctors should be immune to the influences of snacks and stationery.

But, I believe that the exceptionally superb care my patients are receiving this week is directly related to the new superfine point, black markers I recently purchased at Staples.

You had better hope I haven't misplaced my pen when you come in to see me.
