Leif asked Pete if he could please see the top of the toaster. Every day he sees the black glossy sides of it sitting on the counter from his vantage point at the breakfast table, and he wanted to check it out from another angle. So Pete accommodated him, hoisting him up to give him an aerial view.

Once in position, Leif gasped with amazement and yelled, "There are two holes in the top!"

That's one of my favourite qualities in my kids, the unabashed enthusiasm for any kind of new discovery. I only hope I can guide them to adulthood with that ability to marvel intact.
