Hmmm...funny how the pictures of your neighborhood and surroundings make me feel like I am the gritty commoner and you the one reading novels and living in the serene area that you do.

I had to giggle at this post - I like your adjective gritty; it fits well. I can so relate. I find myself not wanting neighbors and wishing for more land & solitude. But I suppose if I made more effort to get to know my neighbors, that might help with my attitude.
